I enjoyed this sequel but found I missed the setting of the city of Camorr, so much more interesting and varied than the barely-sketched coastal cities explored in this second novel. Locke misses it too, but since it's not safe for him to return, he sets out to do the only thing he knows how to do: bold, elaborate schemes to con rich people out of their money.
Unfortunately for Locke, he attracts the attention of the Archon of Tal Verrar, who coerces his help with a power play that forces him out of the laps of idle wealth and into a seafaring life as a would-be pirate captain. Locke doesn't know the first thing about piracy, but as usual, his insane luck sees him through.
