#15: Alix E. Harrow, The Ten Thousand Doors of January
Another book that was even better than I expected. In some obvious respects it reminded me of The Starless Sea, in other respects of Piranesi, with just a touch of gothic horror - but what stood out above all was the vividness of the portrayal of a heroic family shattered and gradually made whole again... heroic in the original sense of the word, people driven by a deep need to know what lies beyond the far horizon, leaving behind comfortable lives to find new destinies that elevate and transform them.
