I hadn't planned to get around to reading this for a while, because horror tropes aren't really my thing, but one of my best friends recently got me hooked on the game Plants vs Zombies, so I was in the mood for more zombies.
This book is fantastic. Which is not to say I have no complaints - the actions of the villain, in particular, don't really hold up to scrutiny unless you dismiss him and everyone who took orders from him as batshit crazy. But I loved the heroes, their ideals and their quirks, and I cried for them.

Date: 2013-02-06 08:17 am (UTC)As far as the revealed villain in "Feed"... How do I say this without spoilers for Books 2 and 3? Ah, got it. I will use only the logical questions that the ending raises if certain avenues of thought are explored.
1. Doesn't the death of the supposed madman and fanatic end all credible investigaton? Very convenient. For most readers and viewers in the world of the Rising, the chain of conspiracy stops with that particular death, done in a particularly melodramatic fashion.
2. If you were about to be captured, would you want your plans to continue without you? Reference "fall guy," "contingency plans," and "suicide options."
3. How likely is it that said adversary could have acted alone, and how high up would his help have to have been?
4. If you haven't asked yourself those questions, I guarantee that Shaun Mason is going to be doing so.
