#29: Ernest Cline, Armada

Ready Player One was a great nerdy wish fulfillment fantasy, but this book is too much of a good thing. Endless genre references cannot entirely replace character depth, and the plot is neither marginally believable nor even slightly original.

I see we are sadly in agreement on Armada... And the book felt so thin, both in word count and story! Disappointing. No re-read value (hardly read it the first time -- I kept skimming, hoping for better).

The main problem is not just lack of strong female characters -- it's lack of *any* well-developed characters.
