kareila: hidden between stacks of books (books)

I read all but the last chapter of this several months ago, but kept forgetting to renew it on my Overdrive account and finish it.

I don't read a lot of nonfiction, but when I do, it's usually about technology. This is a fantastic overview of the history of humanity's effort to map the world and themselves, from the famous longitude-at-sea problem up to the modern surveillance society. It's full of great examples and anecdotes of amazing inventions and colorful inventors. It's the most entertaining and informative book I've read since The Most Human Human.
