The fact that the protagonist is a believably-written musician drew me into this story immediately. Her painful introversion and desperate fear of having her family's secret discovered kept me hanging on every page. I was thrilled that the shape-shifting dragons of this author's world were treated by humans with contempt and arrogance borne of ignorance and pride, because that made them more believable as well.
In short, I completely fell in love with this book, like a song whose every note is perfect, and I am torn between being desperate for a sequel and fear that it couldn't possibly be as wonderful as the original.
