kareila: a lady in glasses holding a stack of books (books)

This is a somewhat bizarre adventure story for kids, based on the premise that a Freemason-type shadow organization is trying to take over the world through breakfast cereals infused with fey magic - the Lucky Charms leprechaun (or is it a clurichaun?), the Trix rabbit (pooka), and Snap, Crackle & Pop (pixies) are all real, and prisoners of the Goodco cereal company. And if that's not strange enough for you, the legend of King Arthur gets thrown into the mix as well.

On the side of truth and justice are four kids and their assorted caretakers and magical companions. The first book of the trilogy is more tightly plotted and alternates between Scott and his new friends, a pair of siblings named Erno and Emily. After Goodco's nefarious plans are discovered, the entire crew, including Scott's sister Polly, go on the run together, then split up into four groups to accomplish different objectives in the second and third books. It all mostly comes back together in the end, although the third book feels very rushed.

I definitely didn't find it to be as lovable as The True Meaning of Smekday, but it was amusing and entertaining.
