Unfortunately this episode invokes the dreaded trope of "villain takes over hero's school/place of origin and subverts it to evil ends," so I had to put it down for a while. But intrigue aside, it was good to visit Swanburne and become better acquainted with Ms. Mortimer. Penelope becomes increasingly less timid under increasingly trying circumstances, going toe to toe with Quinzy, and the children continue to come into their own as well. All the questions raised in the previous book are addressed, but new revelations await further explanation. In short, another satisfying installment in a charming series.
