kareila: a lady in glasses holding a stack of books (books)

The plot of this book lacked the desperation of its predecessor. At the end of Ancillary Justice it seems like an apocalypse is imminent, but instead of open battle, Breq spends some weeks investigating local politics on a non-strategic outpost, the kind of assignment Miles Vorkosigan might pick up from the Emperor of Barrayar. The character development is intriguing, though, especially the case of the unfortunate Tisarwat. By the end of the story, Breq has dispensed as much justice as possible under the circumstances, and is in a good position to face future threats from outside their immediate system.
