Borderline JF/YA/fanfic? covering Carol's first year at the Air Force Academy, showcasing her personal growth during that time as well as the friendships she makes, starting with her assigned roommate, Maria Rambeau. Carol relishes the physical challenges of her training and just wants to prove herself. The character notes are surprisingly nuanced for a low-level reader with a fairly straightforward story; it would have been easy to divide everyone cleanly into "girls suck" or "sexist guys suck" camps, but life is rarely that simple. And I also appreciate that Carol always finds a way to win, even when she appears to lose.
