#41: Patrick S. Tomlinson, Starship Repo
Nov. 3rd, 2019 09:01 pmAnother goofy found-family space operetta that jumped out at me from the library shelves, primarily on the strength of the bold choice to name its primary protagonist Firstname Lastname. (It's a clerical error that no one seems in any hurry to clear up.) First, as she becomes known in her new home, doesn't particularly care for her fellow humans, and demonstrates an aptitude for petty crime and hacking that brings her to the attention of a gang of alien misfits who specialize in contracts to repossess spaceships from owners who are behind on their payments. It's all in good fun, and the characters are generically likable, but some of the humor doesn't land. (The scenes with Plump near the end are particularly painful in that regard.)
