I was increasingly dissatisfied with this series as it muddled on, but I persisted just so I would know how it ended. Everything that made the first book interesting was discarded in order to describe a series of tedious military maneuvers. Sophie is an increasingly pathetic figure, and everything that made her character and her relationships interesting was cast aside in order to resolve the political struggle she never wanted to be part of.
