kareila: a lady in glasses holding a stack of books (books)

I struggled to the end of Part One and then gave up and read a synopsis of the rest so that I could discuss it at my next book club meeting. It baffles me that this was advertised as funny and lighthearted. I've attended funerals more lighthearted than this book, and the humor was entirely of the "ha ha isn't human life stupid and disgusting" variety. Douglas Adams wept.

The story of a girl who lives as an outcast in a future dystopian society that exists on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. As cheerful and uplifting as you might expect with that premise, but Valente's writing is top notch as always.
