I honestly enjoyed this more than I expected to. My husband warned me after he read it that the female protagonist wasn't particularly believable, but I didn't find her to be that much more far-fetched than the male protagonists of Weir's other published novels. I'm here for plausible scientific and engineering solutions to unforeseen problems, not for realistic characters. That said, she has the unique advantage among the three of not being marooned far from home. Related to that, I really appreciated the depiction of Jazz's troubled relationship with her father, which brings the number of family bonds portrayed across all three novels to a grand total of: one. (Unless you want to make an argument that Ryland Grace acquires an adoptive family.)
