The fate of an entire planetary system rests in the hands of a royal disaster bisexual and a traumatized political hostage who find themselves rushed into an arranged marriage in order to resolve a diplomatic crisis. What could possibly go wrong?
I wanted this to be a fun read along the lines of a Vorkosigan space adventure, but it was weighed down by the emotional baggage it needed to process in order to reach its happy ending. Conversely, I think it will also frustrate romance fans who want to be rewarded with sexy funtimes, which there are not nearly enough of given the circumstances.
Content warning: one of the main characters is a past victim of domestic violence, which heavily influences his reactions to the events of the story.
