To continue a previous reductive analogy... if Breq's story is like Star Trek, and Ingray's is like Star Wars, then this one is like Aliens. Or maybe there's another sci-fi/horror film that would be a closer analog, but I wouldn't know because I try not to watch those.
Roughly ten years have passed since the events of the Imperial Radch trilogy resulted in the call for a new conclave to renegotiate the terms of the peace treaty governing the various alien species, but it has taken that long for diplomatic delegates from each faction to gather and begin to get down to business.
We are told, once again, that this treaty is the only thing preventing the Presger from tearing people apart whenever they feel like it. Now we are given a sense of what that looks like from the other side. This book has three viewpoint characters, and one of them was raised by the Presger.
Trigger warnings for various types of disturbing content, including but not limited to: sexual assault, recollections of emotional abuse and neglect, forced deportation, public execution, feral children behaving murderously, recollections of vivisection and cannibalism, and so much body horror, much of it with sexual connotations.
