(Counting this series as five books because I read the omnibus hardcovers instead of 10 tradebacks.)
Very glad I finally got around to reading this. I think it was just as good as Watchmen, and not as nihilistic. Rather, the apocalypse has already happened, and the remaining people are finding reasons to go on living. The story takes place over the course of five years, and we see many characters change and grow during that period of time. The heroes seek justice and defend innocent lives without anyone having to don a cape. The villains are misguided and sympathetic. If I had one criticism, it would be that none of the theories behind the origin of the plague were very convincing.
