It still feels like very little happens in this sequel to The Hostage Prince. New friends are made, and Aspen and Snail both learn important things about themselves, but there is precious little in the way of actual plot until the final few chapters. Each of these short books would probably constitute one or two chapters in a typical epic fantasy novel.
That said, there are some intriguing revelations toward the end of the book and I'm still interested to see where the story goes next.
