Previously.
Our entertaining assortment of characters continues their daring escapades. This time, Mary's friend and employer, Sherlock Holmes, has gone missing, and her housemaid Alice has been kidnapped. Could the two disappearances be connected? Will the members of the Athena Club return to London in time to save them? Will they stop interrupting the author long enough to let her finish writing their story?
Whereas the previous installment drew its primary inspiration from the story of Count Dracula, this one took after a different Bram Stoker book that I had not previously been aware of, called The Jewel of Seven Stars, regarding the discovery of a powerful ancient Egyptian mummy. The characters who appear from that story are also linked to the character of Ayesha, the president of the Société des Alchimistes, who was introduced during the climax of the previous novel's events in Budapest.
Sadly, the ending of this installment of the trilogy seems quite final, and I do not believe any more Athena Club adventures are planned - but if more were to appear, I would gladly read them!
