kareila: a lady in glasses holding a stack of books (books)

I wasn’t in a huge hurry to finish this because it had been more than two years since the last one and I don't know when the next one will arrive, so I wanted to savor it a bit. I am glad I reread Network Effect first, though, since this story immediately follows that one without much of a recap. Our heroes are still cleaning up the mess they found on the abandoned colony, and the corporation that wants to take ownership of it hasn't shown any signs of leaving yet, either.

At least one fellow reader that I'm aware of complained that this story should have been included as part of Network Effect instead of a separate novel. I would argue for re-publishing the first 4 books as a Part 1 volume and the second 3 as a Part 2 (in chronological order, with Fugitive Telemetry first), but I think this story breathes better as a separate unit, with a slow build toward the eventual action, as opposed to the nonstop rollercoaster ride that Network Effect provided. And I certainly don't mind smaller, more frequent story installments if that means less time to wait until we get to celebrate New Murderbot again.
