Here we have a spacefaring community of humans, one borne of necessity but attempting to transition to one of intention, preserving a unique culture and way of life amongst the larger backdrop of galactic civilization. The story follows a small handful of characters at various ages and stages of life, all aboard a massive aging spaceship that was designed to transport tens of thousands and last for centuries. Again, this story is loosely linked to the previous installments - the captain of the spaceship from the first book grew up here, and one of the viewpoint characters is his sister - but it's less of a sequel and more of a companion story. There's also not a lot of action compared to the previous books, but the situation is a compelling one, and the characters have a lot to think about.
