Over the past week or so I rewatched the Hobbit film trilogy for the first time since it was in theaters, which got me interested in revisiting the original published text that I first read when I was 13 or so. In the course of investigating whether it was possible for me to download the text from my library to my Kindle instead of digging out my physical copy, I noticed this book was available and downloaded it as well.
I ended up skipping around, because I was most interested in the backstories of Gandalf and Galadriel, and not really all that keen on the earlier lore that made up the bulk of the volume (which is also why I never read the Silmarillion). Also, as the title warns, these stories were unfinished, so most of what exists on the page is the research notes and recollections of Tolkien's son Christopher.
